  • Lab in a Smartphone: ITMO Scientists Develop Mobile Bacteria Growth Monitoring System

    The new project by ITMO scientists is Russia’s first smartphone-based system for monitoring pH changes caused by lactic acid bacteria. It works in real-time mode and provides accurate results with a margin of error of 0.01. The new solution will help control the quality of fermented dairy products right in the process of small-batch manufacturing. The system can be used without special training and its mobility makes it possible to study lactic acid bacteria outside lab conditions. A corresponding study has been published in Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry and received a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.
