  • ITMO Scientists Create Microspherical Light Amplifiers for Medical Diagnostics

ITMO researchers have developed resonator microparticles that emit light and amplify it by hundreds of times. Thanks to this property, they can be used in producing light-emitting medical sensors for the detection of marker molecules of various diseases in blood samples. Moreover, such structures can be used as miniature anti-fraud markings, including in microelectronics. The results of the Russian Science Foundation-supported study were published in Optics and Laser Technology.

  • ITMO Researchers' New Composite Material Offers 10,000x Amplification of Raman Spectroscopy Signal

A composite material based on polymer miscospheres covered in gold nanoparticles has been developed at ITMO University. It amplifies Raman spectroscopy signals by over 10,000 times and can be used to control the quality of engine oils and pharmaceuticals, as well as to detect hazardous contaminants during environmental monitoring. The results of the Russian Science Foundation-supported study were described in Journal of Materials Chemistry C.
