  • ITMO and Yandex to Train Specialists in Physical AI

    Together with other Russian universities, Yandex and ITMO are launching a new educational program called Physical AI Garage. The graduates will specialize in physical AI and will be trained on real-life industrial cases. At ITMO, Physical AI Garage will become a track within the Robotics and AI educational program. Admissions will start in the summer of 2026; studies will be tuition-free via scholarship programs.

    This year marks the second season of the international Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO), organized by Yandex and HSE University. Winners will split a 2.65 million-ruble prize fund. Last year, a team of ITMO students, Daria Ledneva and Timur Ionov, was named best. They won 600,000 rubles, boosted their IT skills, and expanded their professional portfolios.   • ITMO Students Develop AI Model to Detect Car Malfunctions

    Daria Ledneva and Timur Ionov, students of ITMO’s Institute of Applied Computer Science, became winners in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) organized by Yandex Education and HSE University. Their team, AI Capybara, suggested an AI model that detects car malfunctions – a solution that drew the interest of the ridesharing service Yandex Taxi (Yandex Go).

  • University Applicants Prefer Educational Programs by IT Companies

    The availability of educational programs developed by IT companies is one of the top three criteria for choosing a university among IT applicants – says a recent study by Yandex Education. Most of all when choosing a university, both applicants and their parents care about its support for new students, such as adaptation and mentorship programs and a helpful community. Another factor is high-quality educational programs that equip graduates with relevant skills, as well as experienced teaching staff, including experts from tech companies.

  • ITMO Rector Vladimir Vasilyev: “Technological Leadership Is Impossible Without Mathematics”

    Vladimir Vasilyev, the Rector of ITMO University, believes that training highly qualified IT and AI specialists is impossible without an in-depth study of mathematics and computer science at universities that needs to combine the expertise of the country’s top educational establishments and tech giants. The statement was voiced at a Yandex.Education press conference, which was held today, on August 27, in Moscow. The event was also attended by Maksut Shadayev, the Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the rectors of the Higher School of Economics, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and the Siberian State Medical University, as well as the leaders of educational departments at T-Bank, Sberbank, and VK.

  • ITMO Family Day 2024 Recap: Graduation Caps, Robots, and Pink Flamingos

    For the first time ever, this year’s ITMO Family Day was combined with the graduation party, bringing together the year’s coolest graduates, the rector, and the rock band The Hatters. On July 6, nearly 13,000 students, staff, and friends of ITMO came together on Yelagin Island to attend fun lectures, practice archery, assemble robots, and join all sorts of activities organized by the festival’s partners: Alfa Bank, Sberbank, and Yandex Education.
