• Study Abroad at Home: ITMO University Student’s Experience

  Evgenia Ponomareva, a student at the Faculty of Photonics and Optical Information, and an employee at the Laboratory of Femtosecond Optics and Femtotechnologies, was supposed to study abroad, at Aalto University (Finland) from January to May. However, due to the pandemic, she had to return to St. Petersburg in March. She continues her studies at Aalto University remotely. Evgenia tells us how she studies in Finland from Russia and continues her research from home.

• ITMO Delegates Discuss the Development of Public Spaces During a Visit to Finland

  ITMO University staff have taken part in the “The Baltics. Sails of the World” visit to Helsinki under the aegis of Startup Connect, a project forming part of the 2014-2020 South-East Finland – Russia cross-border cooperation program jointly funded by the European Union, Finland and Russia. Over the course of three days, the Russian delegation toured Finland’s largest creative spaces and startup hubs and discussed collaborations with the representatives of the region’s business community and administrations.

• Master’s Student: Why IT Specialists Need to Get Involved in Science

  A few years ago, Mekhti Musaev graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and spent several years working in the industry. In that time he worked on both simple backend apps and complex scientific projects. This made him realize that, if he wanted to keep moving forward and maintain a career in IT, the basic knowledge acquired at a Bachelor’s program would not be enough.   Jumping on a 3.5 hour train ride to study in a new place for a semester might not sound a lot like ‘study abroad’, especially when you live in a country as large as Russia, but for ITMO student Mariya Shaposhnikova, crossing the border over to Finland and spending a semester at Aalto University turned out to be a really rewarding and eye-opening experience.
