Active Learning: 7 Ways to Increase Students’ Motivation and Engagement
As part of the ITMO.EXPERT project, ITMO University held a workshop on the strategies of active learning. Participating as speakers were the ITMO lecturers who’d recently completed an internship at Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary: Anna Balabanova, a tutor at Foreign Language Training Center; Stanislav Kim, an engineer at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics; and Ivan Loginov, an assistant at the Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems. Internship at MIT: Active Learning, Virtual Reality, and Entrepreneurial Skills
A group of ITMO University teachers spent two weeks at MIT doing an internship on modern educational techniques. The purpose of the internship was to help its participants gain practical teaching skills and answer some important questions such as what are the ways to increase students’ productivity, how to implement online learning in the classroom, and why is it important to give students the opportunity to put the acquired knowledge into practice?

INDIN2018 Conference: IoT, Big Data and Breakthroughs in Cyber-Physical Systems Modeling
In late July, the city of Porto (Portugal) hosted the 16th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN2018). Each year the conference brings together researchers and industry specialists to discuss the latest events, trends, and research in the field. Polina Ovsiannikova, a graduate of ITMO University’s Computer Technologies Department, was one of this year’s speakers at the conference. Her report concerned the automated generation of formal plant models for cyber-physical systems using active learning.
