People need more and more electricity, as well as grids that can cope with such load: a malfunction in a single element can now lead to a district-wide or even city-wide blackout. For this reason, researchers are becoming all the more interested in the idea of a “smart” power supply management. Specialists from ITMO University develop a prototype of a smart system for houses that can adjust to daily fluctuations in power consumption and ease the load on infrastructure.

  While ITMO students are beavering away on expanding their knowledge, the main campus of their university is gradually following suit. Over the past month, specialists in the field of the Internet of Things have been augmenting the third floor of the building with a “smart floor” system, which will help make the rooms more comfortable, safe and cost-efficient.
