ITMO Student Dmitriy Tsarev on Theoretical Physicists, Quantum Physics and Its Similarities With Professional Sports
ITMO scientists together with their colleagues from Taiwan have published a paper that could serve as a basis for next-gen technologies of ultra precision metrology. These technologies will surpass LIGO detectors, which are capable of detecting gravitational waves. The New Kilogram: Reasons Behind Upcoming Measurement Reform
Held in Versailles, the 26th General Conference on Weights and Measures was the site of a historic decision to redefine the kilogram. Simply put, it is now immaterial and will be defined via a formula and not, as it had been before, via a material artifact. The effect of that change is that we can now reproduce the perfect kilogram anywhere on Earth without using conventional measurement devices or making comparisons to a standard physical prototype.

ITMO and VNIIM Develop Joint Master's Program in Metrology
This summer, ITMO University and the Mendeleev National Research Institute of Metrology (VNIIM) have put out a call for applicants to a Master’s degree program in “Standardization and Metrology in High-Tech Industry”. The new Master’s program, developed by specialists from ITMO and VNIIM, consists of 20 highly specific subjects that exist on the intersection of math, computer science, physics, chemistry, economics and ecology.
