  • Intergenerational Teamwork: ITMO University Introduces a New Mentorship Program

    Mentorship is one of the most effective ways of transferring knowledge from an experienced professional to a beginning specialist. Many a successful entrepreneur have in their time sought advice from mentors, which had a positive impact on them and their projects. This fall, ITMO’s Alumni Relations Center is launching a new mentorship program which will allow students to find mentors and receive valuable advice related to their professional future.   • Academy of Talents: ITMO’s Specialists from Institute of Design & Urban Studies Host Lectures for School Students

    St. Petersburg’s Academy of Talents has hosted Live City, a specialized educational program on urban science and design for school students. Participating as experts of the projects were the staff of ITMO University’s Institute of Design & Urban Studies. The specialists contributed with a series of introductory lectures and held interactive workshops. This should help the 9-to-11-graders to find a relevant topic for team research work that they could then present at the national competition of scientific and technological projects “Big Challenges” in the track “Smart City”.

  • ITMO University to Participate in a New Program for the Development of Student Volunteering

    According to the statistics, the average age of a volunteer in Russia amounts to 22-27 years old. The development of the volunteering movement at universities and vocational education institutions is becoming one of the priority tasks for the nearest future. As set forth in the national project “Education”, the number of student volunteers will have reached 2.8 million by 2020 and 8.8 million by 2024. To help educational organizations in this endeavor, in April of 2019 the Association of Volunteer Centers (AVC) launched the program “Our People”. ITMO University joined the list of the participants.

  • “Innovative Entrepreneurship” Master’s Program: Starting Your Business at ITMO University

    Now is the right time to learn how to create your own business, believes Anton Gopka, investor, co-founder of ATEM Capital and dean of ITMO’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations. But in order to launch a really successful company, one needs systemic knowledge. Such competencies are taught at ITMO’s “Innovative Entrepreneurship” Master’s program. Its students can launch their independent projects under the guidance of mentors — successful entrepreneurs and representatives of the industry, as well as use their startups for their thesis defense. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Anton Gopka expanded on the opportunities offered by the program as well as the competencies that one has to get today in order to be sought-after tomorrow.

  • Participants and Organizers on New Russian-German Exchange Program

    In April, a group of ITMO students went to Germany for an exchange. Accompanied by their German peers, they went to several cities in Bavaria, explored the local universities, and visited modern laboratories that work in close collaboration with BMW and other major companies. Yulia Usikova, vice director of ITMO’s sports and recreation center Yagodnoye, and student Ekaterina Tkacheva expanded on their experience.

  • Computer Simulation to Make Cities Cleaner

    Egor Smirnov, a graduate student at ITMO, who is currently working at ITMO’s Institute of Design & Urban Studies has come up with an algorithm for planning path networks using dynamic behavioral modeling. The project will soon be presented at the ICCS Conference in China. Egor Smirnov told ITMO.NEWS about why pedestrian networks planning is important and what ordinary people can do to solve this problem.
