Cable management

Let’s start with solutions to the evergreen problem of managing a bunch of wires you probably have all over your desk. Since wireless technologies aren’t yet omnipresent, it’s a must to somehow figure out a way to organize your cables in a safe and nice-looking way.

Plastic boxes for extension cords are a popular way to go, but here’s another option that we enjoy more: a metal extension cord organizer you can install under your desk without drilling. They look more solid and provide better air circulation to avoid overheating.

Stick-on holders like these are also an affordable cable management solution. You can place them on your desk to avoid cords awkwardly sliding down to the floor once you detach them. Thanks to this tiny gadget, they will always be in place.

Keep it clean

We don’t talk enough about how hard it is to clean a keyboard. Even if you don’t eat by your desk and wash your hands 20 times a day, these guys get dirty in seconds. And wiping them isn’t enough – tiny particles of dust get stuck under the keys. Yikes!

Here’s our cleaning routine: first, take a tiny brush and sweep your keyboard meticulously, going in all directions. Then you need to somehow pick up all the dust without putting any of it back inside. For this, you can try a cleaning slime or a dry dust cloth. In the second case, you need to add a bit of static for the cloth to work – you can do it by rubbing the cloth against a plastic bag. In this case, it’ll pick up all the dust just like a magnet.

Almost done – now spray a bit of a disinfectant on another cloth, wipe the keyboard, and you’re good to go!

Get cozy

Once it’s all nice and clean, consider adding a personal touch to your desktop with something that makes you feel good. Our must-haves, for instance, are desk mats. Alternatively, get a dining table mat – it feels like there’s a wider choice of designs and materials in this case. You can also get an office chair cover for a quick makeover, a pillow for more comfort, or whatever makes you feel cozy

An extra tip…

… for those who are a bit paranoid (like us). If the camera on your computer doesn’t have a cover, you can get one yourself. Duct tape isn’t a good alternative: it will leave marks, won’t look nice, and might even ruin your camera. So, get one of these to avoid feeling as if you’re always on display. Yes, no one’s watching. Probably. But a tiny change like that does make you feel more secure.
