The history of women in higher education is a bit hazy at best but the biggest strides were made in the 20th century. Many of the most well-known universities around the world historically did not admit women to universities until the last century. Oxford University, for example, changed its statute to admit women to full membership of the university for the first time in 1920 (just 100 years ago!).
Here at ITMO University, we have many women from all around the world who are studying and working alongside each other, and we’re proud to have such a diverse group of wonderful, hard-working and talented ladies who are moving science and education forward.
We are grateful to live in a country where women have the right to be educated and to practice science, and we are thankful for inspiring examples of women who show us how we can make a positive change in the world.
So we decided it would be fun to ask some of our staff and students how they usually enjoy this special day and what it means to them!
