On Friday, it will be the start of the “Message to Man” Film Festival; the Festival has been conducted since 1988, and focuses on non-feature, short and animated films. Each year, it presents over 350 films from around the world united by its main theme and mission - to promote eternal human values and acquaint the viewers with best works from different parts of the world. This year, the Festival’s selection will be broadened with experimental movies as well.
Another large-scale event for this weekend will be the Autumn Festival of Fountains in Peterhof - a grand annual celebration dedicated to the closing of the fountains for the winter period and this year’s last chance to fully enjoy the renowned museum reserve. Apart from the traditional concert and theatrical performances, its program will include a spectacular light show and a fireworks display - so, even if you’ve already been to Peterhof fountains, the festival is a great chance to literally see them in a different light. The tickets for the festival can be booked on the museum’s website or bought at the event - though, considering the event’s popularity, booking would be a wiser choice.
If you’re not planning on leaving the city, but still prefer a stroll rather than sitting inside, you can well visit the Your Music festival that will take place in four different parks in the Petrogradsky district; three of these sites will be dedicated to certain musical styles: classical, rock and jazz, and the Mixed stage will host workshops on playing exotic instruments and dance battles. Another noteworthy event will be the Parade of Alternative Transport which will gather adherers of motorless transportation means and just anyone who’s interested in thinking out of the box; its program will include lectures and musical performances dedicated to different stages of the development of underground music in Russia at its every stop, and lots of other fun stuff, as well. The start is on Saturday, 5 pm, at the Victor Tsoi’s garden square not far from the Gorkovskaya subway station.
Lastly, the more sports-minded of you can take part in the All-Russian Running Day on Sunday, September 17; the event will start at 11.30am at the Dvortsovaya square and includes a 5-kilometer run across the city center, as well as smaller races.
