Cecil Beaton: Celebrating Celebrity exhibition

  • General Staff Building, the State Hermitage Museum

The General Staff Building presents Russia’s first major exhibition of works by one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century –  Cecil Beaton: Celebrating Celebrity. True to its name, the display showcases a galaxy of celebrity images and sketches that highlight Beaton’s role as a herald of celebrity culture and its dedicated advocate. His magic was in creating the perfect setting or background to make a person shine, be it the Russian aristocrat Natalia Paley with mattress springs for a background, or Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain with a fine art painting behind her. But there’s even more to that – give it a shot and find out on your own.
