On the eve of Catherine the Great’s 300th anniversary of birth, ROSPHOTO presents an exhibition of works by the Leningrad-based photographer Elena Karusaar. On view are a series of photographs she took when working on the set of The Royal Hunt at Lenfilm – a historical drama set during the reign of the Empress.

A large-scale retrospective of Konstantin and Vladimir Makovsky brings together more than 165 works, which reveal the exceptional yet often opposing worldviews of the artist brothers. The centerpiece of the exhibition is The Judgement of Paris (1889) by Konstantin Makovsky from the museum’s collection. Some of the works on display are exhibited in Russia for the first time.

This is a music weekend indeed! This weekend, the Etoetno (“This is Ethno”) festival will bring it all back – brighter and louder. The festival will feature a diverse lineup of contemporary folk and ethnic musicians from Serbia, India, China, and, of course, Russia.

Closing of the orchestra's season

Celebrate the end of St. Petersburg Philharmonia’s season by going to one of its final can’t-be-missed concerts. On June 29, the Academic Symphony Orchestra will perform some of the most beautiful and historic masterpieces composed by Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich – the Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Symphony No. 5, respectively.

Happiness Corporation

Running until July 28, Happiness Corporation shines a light on the graduation works by students of ITMO’s Art & Science program. This year’s topic is the artist and the enterprise – and how often they are viewed as opposites. For this, artists chose to see the corporation as a means of creative expression – to reflect on new forms of human associations and technologies, as well as imagine how these interactions will look like in the future.

Music Above the City

Get ready for some classical music under the open sky! Every day, from June 28 to July 10, free concerts will take place beside the Peter and Paul Fortress. The program will include carillon melodies, as well as popular classic and folk music performed on this unique musical instrument.
