It is well known that a high developed science communication infrastructure is one of the main growth drivers of R&D area. Moreover, science communication activities contribute to the modern information society, in which academic and innovative achievements are very important. Unfortunately the implementation of communicative practices is not very quickly because of the lack of studying programs in the field of science communication.
“Currently most of students, who are interested in a degree in science journalism and communication, have to search for the special trainings at universities situated out of Russia because in Europe, for example, there are hundreds of such programs while in Russia they are not widespread. Most of local courses are one-time. Thus we have no Master`s programs that are the most effective and appropriate for students,” said Dmitry Malkov, Science Communication and Outreach Officer.
The new program will open several career opportunities for future experts such as science journalism, public relations as well as science visualization and promotion. The students will learn the latest trends in modern science, the ways of where to find and how to present information about academic achievements, how to create popular science content. After the graduation the specialists will be ready to work at scientific museums and R&D centers as a press secretary for science.
“Apart from practical-oriented courses this program offer students specific lectures focused on social and political aspects of science communication…” noted Sergei Stafeev, the main supervisor of the Master`s program.
Furthermore the students will participate in interesting internship courses joining Russian and international science popular projects. The background of a potential candidate is not important – both Bachelors in humanities and technical sciences can enter the program.
