• Russian Science Foundation to Support R&D in Five New Fields In 2023

  The Russian Science Foundation (RSF) is set to receive additional powers to financially support those experimental research & development projects that are of interest to the industry and can potentially be introduced into the current production processes. This was stated by Alexander Khlunov, the CEO of RSF, in his address at the second Congress of Young Scientists in Sochi on December 1st. Vlada Petrova, a fourth-year student at ITMO’s Faculty of Energy and Ecotechnology, does research at the intersection of quantum chemistry and ecology. • Congress of Young Scientists Day 3: Reviewing Year of Science and Technology in Russia

  A total of 3,000 students, researchers, and representatives of government and business took part in the Congress of Young Scientists in Sochi over the three days of the event. The congress concluded with a plenary session, where the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Aide to the Russian President Andrei Fursenko, and the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov discussed the results of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia with leading Russian researchers and representatives of tech companies. • Congress of Young Scientists Day 1: School of Russian Science Foundation, Art & Science, and Student Laboratories

  December 8 marked the start of the National Congress of Young Scientists – one of the closing events of the Russian Year of Science and Technology – in the Sirius Park of Science and Art, Sochi. More than 3,000 attended the congress on the first day. Among the participants are representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Science Foundation (RSF), universities and research laboratories, leading IT and tech companies, as well as aspiring scientists and school students. • Machine Learning and Geological Faults: ITMO Students Take Part in a School by Gazprom Neft

  This spring, the Sirius educational center in Sochi held a school in Infocommunication Technologies Application in the Oil and Gas Industry. At the school organized by the Gazprom Neft Science & Technology Center students learned how machine learning can be used in the mining of mineral resources and created team projects on the topic. First-year students of ITMO’s Master’s program in Big Data and Machine Learning were among the participants of the school.

• Reach Out and Touch Science: Sirius Conference Participants at ITMO University

  From February 10 to 15, five students from Moscow, Kazan and Saint Petersburg took part in an internship at the Faculty of Physics and Engineering at ITMO University. Supervised by researchers and postgraduate students, they worked for a week on a real experiment with high-tech equipment.
