  • ITMO Helps Train Optical Systems Design Specialists in Collaboration with European Union

    ITMO University has successfully completed its participation in the ADOPSYS (ADvancedOPticalSYStemDesign) project, conducted as part of the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme’s Marie Curie international mobility fellowship. The project aims to train elite young specialists in the field of applied optics. Per the grant’s provisions, the university was to educate a European student on the design of applied optical systems. Project work was conducted at ITMO’s Research Laboratory for Computer-Aided Design of Optical-Information and Energy Saving Systems.

  • New Head of US English Language Office on How to Improve English-Language Education in Russia and the World

    Universities all over the world are putting efforts into creating an English-language culture among their students, professors and researchers, as such knowledge lets universities reach out and enter the international education market, explained Kelli Odhuu, new head of the regional English Language Office at the US Embassy, during her visit to ITMO University’s International Office. She learned about the university’s efforts to popularize the English language and spoke about the general issues that universities worldwide encounter in this endeavor.

  • Exchange semester in France: a Life-Changing Experience

    Maria Garets, a student at the Department of Intelligent Technologies in Humanities at ITMO University, spent her winter semester at Eurecom, a graduate school and research centre in communication systems established by one of the top French universities, Telecom ParisTech. Eurecom is located at the heart of Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s largest technopark, a hotbed for internships and job opportunities. ITMO.NEWS asked Maria about her experience of studying in France.

  • ITMO Programmers Make It to Google HashCode Finals

    The qualifying round of Google HashCode, a team competition in engineering programming, has ended in early March. Two teams from ITMO University finished in the 2nd and 5th places, having competed with almost 5,000 teams from around the world.  On April 28 the teams will compete in HashCode finals in Dublin.

  • Exchange Students from Brazil: 'They're Always Happy'

    Students from around the world have come to participate in the IT and Innovation Business in Russia exchange semester at ITMO. Among them is a bright and bubbly group from Brazil. Every year a group of four or five students come from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in Vittoria, on the east coast of Brazil, to join our exchange semester. Last year we talked to Esthevão who shared about what brought him to Russia. This year we talk with Angelo, Thales, Caio, Mateus and Yan who have been here for five weeks now, about their experience so far.

  • ITMO University Climbs 100 Positions in QS Computer Science & Information Systems Subject Ranking

    QS has revealed today its 2018 World University Rankings by Subject. This year, one of the most influential rankings in the world reviewed the performance of over 1,000 universities from 151 countries. QS researchers ranked the universities in 48 subjects and five general subject areas. ITMO University is now present in three subject rankings and, for the first time ever, is included in the Engineering & Technology subject area. ITMO’s highest position is in the Computer Science & Information Systems ranking, where it has gone up by 100 spots as compared to last year.

  • ITMO-Developed Nanoparticle Technology Helps Stop Internal Bleeding

    Scientists from ITMO University have developed magnetically-driven nanoparticles containing thrombin. A drug based on these nanoparticles can be injected intravenously and delivered straight to the site of a vascular injury to stop internal bleeding. It can accelerate local clot formation and reduce overall blood loss by up to 15 times. The nanoparticles are not toxic to humans and can potentially be used for safe treatment. The results were published in Scientific Reports.
