• Patrick Asante: The Support From the International Office Is Incredible

  Patrick Asante Owusu comes from Accra, Ghana and holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. He’s a second-year Master’s student in Big Data & Extreme Computing with a specialization in Applied Mathematics and Informatics. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Research and Development and Consulting, he really wanted to continue his studies. First he worked in Ghana as a software developer and in 2017 moved to Russia to study the Russian Language at Belgorod State Technological University. In 2018 he enrolled in a Master’s degree at ITMO and will complete his studies this summer.

• Active Learning: 7 Ways to Increase Students’ Motivation and Engagement

  As part of the ITMO.EXPERT project, ITMO University held a workshop on the strategies of active learning. Participating as speakers were the ITMO lecturers who’d recently completed an internship at Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary: Anna Balabanova, a tutor at Foreign Language Training Center; Stanislav Kim, an engineer at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics; and Ivan Loginov, an assistant at the Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems. • Yimer Getnet: Food Biotechnology is a Promising Field and I Want to Be Part of It

  All the way from sunny Bahir Dar in Ethiopia, Yimer Getnet came to ITMO University last September to enroll in our Master’s program in Food Biotechnology. He loves this field and hopes to contribute to its future, particularly back in Ethiopia.

• How to Teach in English: EMI Teacher Training Course for Lecturers of Russian Universities

  ITMO University just completed the results of a 13-week English as a Medium of Instruction Teacher Training professional development course. 15 specialists from different Russian universities took part in the course. For the first 12 weeks, the lecturers studied online: they watched lectures and completed relevant tasks. The last week of the course was devoted to practice and was held at ITMO University.

  Hailing from sunny Mexico, Laura Rodriguez is a Master’s student at ITMO University’s Art & Science program where she explores bioart and sustainable materials. A bioartist working with bacterial cellulose, she has previously studied at Skoltech, where along with fellow students she worked on crafting environmentally-friendly leather from yeast and bacteria.   Mohammed Alsultan is the head of Get Local – a student club that organizes activities and events for international students. That includes leisure activities and cultural and personal development initiatives. Mohammed came to St. Petersburg from the Gaza Strip and is now in his second year at the Mechatronics and Robotics Master’s program at ITMO.
