  • ITMO.EduStars Winner and ICPC Star Coach Andrey Stankevich on Finding His Calling

    Andrey Stankevich got into programming when he was still in school; in the 90s, before he even had his own computer, he already read computer science books and took computer classes. As a student at ITMO, he twice became the winner of ICPC, the world’s most prestigious programming competition. After graduating and becoming a lecturer, he took up coaching. Under his leadership, ITMO University’s team became the world’s only seven-time ICPC champion. We spoke to Andrey to find out about the differences between academic teaching and coaching, getting students to engage with complex topics, and why teaching is more than a vocation.

  • Entrepreneurship, Technohistory, and Digital Humanities: Finals of ITMO.EduLeaders

    This year, the results of ITMO.EduAwards will be announced for the second time. One of the competition’s tracks is ITMO.EduLeaders, participants of which submit their own educational projects for a chance to win 250,000 rubles and, in the case of outside applicants, to join the ranks of the university's staff.   • ITMO.EduStars Winner Alexander Kapitonov on How to Motivate Students and Make Engineering Interesting

    Alexander Kapitonov started teaching robotics as a PhD student thanks to his experience working at the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239. Now, he not only teaches and leads projects, but also heads ITMO’s Faculty of Infocommunication Technologies. Last year, Alexander was one of the winners of the ITMO.EduStars contest.   • ITMO.EduStars Winner Natalia Gorlushkina on Teaching and Friendship With Students

    Natalia Gorlushkina comes from a family of professionals in optics: almost all of her relatives studied and worked in this field. She graduated from LIFMO (now ITMO University) and worked at a lab, but then decided to become a lecturer. Having worked for over 30 years in this profession, she taught many generations of students, received several awards, and last year, won ITMO.EduStars. We asked her to share what it was like to change her specialization, how to become friends with students, and why for her, the university feels like home.

  • ITMO Graduate Alexey Feskov on Going From the Industry to Art & Science

    Alexey Feskov graduated from ITMO University almost ten years ago. After he received his diploma, he got a chance to work on several projects at Russia’s major companies Sberbank and Gazprom before he decided to change his career and come back to his alma mater. Now, Alexey is the technical director of ITMO’s Art & Science Center where his team managed to develop a brand new exhibition space for the works of Art & Science students and renowned contemporary artists.   • ITMO Edu.Stars Winner Anton Starovoytov on Teaching Lab Classes Online

    Anton Starovoytov started teaching as a PhD student. Now he is the vice dean of ITMO’s Faculty of Photonics and a researcher at the university’s International Research and Educational Center for Physics of Nanostructures. He also develops educational projects, such as virtual simulations of physical equipment for lab projects on nonlinear optics, which will make such equipment more accessible. Last year, Anton Starovoytov was named one of the winners of the ITMO.EduStars contest.
