Yandex Director of Marketing Andrey Sebrant: We’re Living in the Age of Implementation
On December 18, the Winter School “It’s Your Call!”, organized by ITMO University and Sberbank, began its second season. 180 bachelor and Master’s students from all over Russia joined each other in St. Petersburg. Gennady Korotkevich Wins Yandex.Algorithm for Fifth Time
Gennady Korotkevich, a Master's student from the Department of Computer Technologies at ITMO University and a two-time champion of ACM ICPC, has won the competition Yandex.Algorithm for the fifth time. He was also the only participant to complete all the tasks of the competition.

Andrey Sebrant On Machine Learning, Public Confidence and Relevant Education
The “It’s Your Call!” Winter School that brought together the best participants of the “I am a Professional” academic competition has just ended at ITMO University. Recently, Bachelor’s and Master’s students from 33 Russian cities that showed high results in the competition’s three tracks (Computer Science, Information and cybersecurity, and Photonics). Andrey Sebrant, Product Marketing Director at Yandex and author for the @techsparks popular science channel, gave an open lecture on machine learning, the development of technology and the professions of the future. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, he shared about the prospects of using machine learning and the issues related to public confidence, as well as the skills sought-after by leading IT companies and the fundamental problems of modern education.

New Summer School on Concurrent Computing
From July 3 to 7 more than 90 developers, students and young scientists from Russia, Europe and the Middle East will attend a course dedicated to the theoretical and practical aspects of concurrent computing. The school’s program will include lectures and workshops developed by leading experts from the USA, Switzerland, France, Austria, Israel and Russia. The first day of the Summer School on Practice and Theory of Concurrent Computing at ITMO University was marked with a talk by Nir Shavit, a renowned scientist, winner of the Gödel and Dijkstra prizes and professor at the Tel Aviv University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Results of Q.E.D Competition or How People Solved Math Tasks
Last weekend ITMO hosted the Q.E.D Competition [from Latin "quod erat demonstrandum" which is "what was to be demonstrated" -Ed.]. The participants had to solve 10 tasks. They didn’t need to be versed in formula and theorems — one could solve everything using logic.

"Come Out and Solve!" - The First All-Russian Test in Technical Sciences
On February, 12th, children and adults from all over the world had the chance to participate in the All-Russian Test in Technical Sciences. The test was held in universities all over the country (ITMO was one of such sites in St. Petersburg), and online. The tasks for the test were devised in such a way that they could be solved by anyone versed in technical sciences, even if they have no technical background: the main point of the event was not competing with others, but remembering what you once knew.

Now You Can "Solve It!" at ITMO
In a little bit more than a month the All Russian Test on Physics, Math and Informatics "Solve It!" will take place in several large Russian Universities including ITMO University. Thanks to Yandex.Contest platform it will be possible to solve 15 tasks online. The main feature of the test is that any person can try to test his or her knowledge: a businessman, a politician, an actor, a humanitarian student…its organizers believe the more people will be involved, the more popular STEM disciplines will be. "SolveIt!" will take place on February 15, 2017.

Those are only a few of the questions related to Big Data that can trouble both the uninitiated coders as well as any humanities-minded people. It may even seem that Big Data is everywhere, and there's no way to deal with it. Vladimir Krasilnik, a developer for Yandex.Market, brought some clarity to these questions during the "Joker-2016.Student Edition" conference.
