• ITMO Scientists Develop New Cheap and Quick Way to Produce Green Hydrogen

  A team of researchers from ITMO have designed a new type of reactor that can quickly produce affordable green hydrogen. The technology uses magnets and nanoparticles to accelerate sixfold the process of water decomposition into hydrogen and oxygen, all while requiring 15% less energy than conventional methods. The lab-assembled reactor prototype is now ready for industrial testing. The resulting paper was published in Chemical Engineering Journal.

• Highly Efficient & Eco-Friendly Sorbent for Wastewater Treatment Developed at ITMO University

  Researchers from ITMO University developed an affordable hybrid sorbent that efficiently removes ions of cobalt and lead from water, making it safe for both people and the environment. Unlike its analogs, the developed sorbent copes with pollution in high-acidity and -temperature water and can be regenerated and used again for up to three times after first use. The findings of the study were reported in Chemical Engineering Journal.

  Researchers from ITMO University have managed to improve the efficacy of perovskite solar cells with the help of silicon nanoantennas, which increase the concentration of light in the material at certain wavelengths. In the future, specialists can employ the new method to create solar cells for indoor lighting and even the space industry. The results of the study are published in Chemical Engineering Journal.
