  • AI Busted: ITMO Researchers Learn to Detect AI-Modified Texts

Scientists at ITMO University developed an LLM-based tool that analyzes text content and style to detect whether it was written by a human or an AI. The detector demonstrates the accuracy of 94% and can not only spot AI-generated writings but also offer suggestions to humanize the text. The service will be of use for proper AI labeling, as well as reviewing student papers and corporate documents. A demo version of the technology (in Russian) is already available for testing; we tried it, and it does not lie – this article was indeed written by a real person.

  • ITMO Researchers Develop Affordable, Versatile Model for Tracking Potential Production Accidents

A team of scientists from ITMO University has developed software that can automatically track potential human causes of industrial accidents, such as drinking or smoking in the workplace. Unlike its alternatives, the model is capable of detecting up to 10 events simultaneously, has the accuracy of 80% (higher than that of VideoMAE, the best open-source model trained on the same data), and requires less computational resources. The algorithm is already in use at a major production site in Perm Krai, where it has lowered the required number of in-person checkups by threefold.

  • How Computer Algorithms Help Study Metabolic Processes on the Deepest Level

Scientists from ITMO’s International Laboratory “Computer Technologies” have launched GATOM, a new version of their online service GAM (Genes and Metabolites). The platform analyzes the gene expression and cell processes, as well as looks for the connections between them. This helps researchers figure out how, for instance, the cells of an immune system function. The scientists are confident that their tool will not only help better understand biological processes at the cellular level but also benefit the development of treatment for autoimmune diseases and cancer.
