ITMO Researchers Develop Biofermenter That Accelerates Organic Waste Processing by 60 Times
A team of scientists from ITMO University has created a series of closed-type units for aerobic fermentation of organic waste. The equipment is 30-60 times faster than conventional methods (such as composting) at processing manure, droppings, and food waste into safe organic fertilizer, litter, or feed additives, while also consuming tens of times less energy than its counterparts available on the international market. Included in three Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation lists of best available technologies, this spring the project was presented at the St. Petersburg International Forum Ecology of Big City.
