  • Sustainable Chemistry For Energy Technologies: New Master’s Program With Gazprom Neft and Tatneft

Students in the new program will learn about alternative energy sources, synthesize new materials, and develop cutting-edge technologies for the oil and gas industry. Implemented jointly with major oil producers Gazprom Neft and Tatneft, the new program will offer students the opportunity to work on the companies’ projects during their studies, as well as land positions in R&D departments of major enterprises upon graduation. ITMO.NEWS examines the benefits of the program.

  • ITMO Researchers Develop Smart Energy System To Help Ease Electrical Grid Load

The development of industry, urbanization – all of that constantly increases the load on electric grids. People need more and more electricity, as well as grids that can cope with such load: a malfunction in a single element can now lead to a district-wide or even city-wide blackout. For this reason, researchers are becoming all the more interested in the idea of a “smart” power supply management. Specialists from ITMO University develop a prototype of a smart system for houses that can adjust to daily fluctuations in power consumption and ease the load on infrastructure.

  • Microbial Fuel Cell, Space Station, and Electronic Guide: Finals of Quantoriada Competition

The final round of the Quantoriada international engineering competition for school children has recently kicked off in St. Petersburg’s Planetarium. It’s up to participants to decide what kind of device they want to develop; this year, they could choose between a space station, a drawing robot, an electronic guide, a microbial fuel cell, and other valuable devices. ITMO University’s SCAMT Laboratory has provided a platform for the competition. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, the participants share their thoughts about the contest and the importance of the devices they’re currently working on.
