ITMO Alumnus Ilya Lazerson on Why Chefs Should Have Higher Education
Today, Ilya Lazerson is one of the most prominent chefs in St. Petersburg and Russia. He worked with owners of world-class restaurants in Europe, published numerous cookbooks, hosted more than one TV show, and joined the Eda (Food) TV channel. These days, Ilya is also a famous YouTube blogger with over a million subscribers. He became interested in cooking when he was fifteen years old and in the 90s, he graduated from the Leningrad Technological Institute of Refrigeration Industry (currently, part of ITMO’s School of Biotechnology and Cryogenic Systems). ITMO.NEWS talked to the star chef to learn more about his student years and media presence, as well as what he thinks about the current foodtech trends and the importance of university education for chefs.

ITMO Professor Creates Platform to Help Bloggers Understand Their Audience, Find Partners and Improve Content
The SoPop.ai platform analyzes a creator’s publications and identifies user reactions to them. It also helps companies search for blogs they can use for advertising purposes. The project makes use of ideas developed by ITMO scientists that focus on using neural networks in working with social media content.

In 2019, there are over 500 million blogs on the Internet, with a new post published every 0.5 seconds and read by 77% of all internet users, according to data provided by 99firms. How hasthe blogosphere changed over the last five years? Why is YouTube becoming more and more like TV while we are getting used to non-stop content consumption? And can you make a living from a blog without millions of followers? All the latest blogging trends, as well as predictions and expectations in the field were covered in a lecture by Tatiana Ivanova, the founder and CEO of the Hello blogger group. It has only been operating for eight years, but it has already organized more than 2,000 advertising campaigns and over 30 events ranging from Vidfest to VKfest. The lecture was part of ITMO’s Marketorium Forum and here are some of its highlights.
