New Invention from ITMO: Materials Biodegradability Testing
ITMO scientists have suggested a system capable of testing materials for biodegradability. Their invention is a multistep installation that can detect the time and exact percentage of decomposition of various samples such as disposable tableware, coffee cups, or plastic bags. In the future, the system may become the foundation for a national biodegradability certification system in Russia.

ITMO Scientists Breed High-Protein Fly Larvae for Use as Cattle Feed
Researchers at ITMO University have suggested a technology for controlled breeding of high-protein black soldier fly larvae that includes specially selected breeding conditions and food waste substrate with a high protein content. Apart from decreasing the amount of organic waste, the new technology will help create an alternative non-plant-based protein source for feeding cattle.

Over the Hills: ITMO Students Complete Two-Week Trek of the Russian Far East
The summer is a great time to not only rest, but also acquire new knowledge and gain some unforgettable experiences. This was definitely the case for a group of students from ITMO’s Faculty of Ecotechnology who went on an expedition into the Bastak Nature Reserve. Using a variety of methods – GIS, drone survey, and more – they assessed the state of the reserve’s bodies of water, soil, and flora.
