Yandex Launches New PhD Program and Research Grants Initiative in AI
The Russian tech giant Yandex is launching its first practice-driven PhD program in AI. Its aim is to create the conditions and infrastructure for the training of the nation’s young scientists. Each year, the students will receive 800,000-ruble grants in order to create new AI technologies and quickly integrate them into the industry. Among the program’s first partners are ITMO University and the Higher School of Economics (HSE), with the lineup expected to grow manifold in the near future.

Complete Master’s and PhD in Four Years With ITMO’s New Educational Track
Starting this year, prospective Master’s students can join a Master’s and PhD combined track, which allows students to pre-select their supervisors, enroll into PhD programs exam-free, and shorten their time of study at the university from six to four years by taking higher-degree courses in advance. First in Russia: ITMO Launches New PhD Program in AI
The new list of fields for PhD and DSc degrees now includes topical fields – among them are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. ITMO University has launched the first and so far the only PhD program in Russia in the field of AI. Applications for the program for the next academic year open this summer. ITMO.NEWS talked to Alexander Boukhanovsky, head of the National Center for Cognitive Research, and Maria Skvortsova, head of the Department of Higher Qualification Expert Training, about the contents of the program, features of the offered training, and aspects of the application process.

ITMO Student Dmitriy Tsarev on Theoretical Physicists, Quantum Physics and Its Similarities With Professional Sports

Promising Materials, Reservoir Computing and Li-Fi: Research at ITMO’s International Research Center of Functional Materials and Devices of Optoelectronics
Since the time of its foundation, researchers of ITMO’s International Research Center of Functional Materials and Devices of Optoelectronics have succeeded in publishing over 600 research articles, getting over one and a half billion rubles in funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Russian Science Foundation, and Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and completing 36 major projects, international-level projects included. As part of an Open Day, researchers from the center’s six laboratories and its head Alexey Romanov spoke about its structure, international research activities, and project work.
