ITMO Roboticists Developing a Financially Independent Robot Artist
A team of PhD students from ITMO University’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics are developing a fully autonomous robot artist. The project aims to demonstrate the possibility of creating autonomous systems using the principles of robonomics. ITMO.NEWS got in touch with developers Ivan Berman, Alexei Ovcharov, and Vadim Manaenko to learn about their project, the ethics of robot-human interaction, and their collaboration with the MIT Media Lab.

Results of European Parliament Discussion on Robot Economy
The European Parliament has recently hosted a workshop on the topic “Economy of Robots”. Although a complete integration of robots and AI into humanity’s everyday life is expected to come in a few generations, the process has already begun. Experts outlined the issues that may arise in the meantime. Among the workshop’s participants were Aleksandr Kapitonov, a research assistant at ITMO’s Department of Computer Science and Control Systems, and Sergei Lonshakov, an ITMO alumnus and founder of Airalab.

Robot Economics: How Industry 4.0 Will Change Our Life
Have you heard of robot economics? Robot economics is the economics of robotization. People have been talking about “robots replacing people” for a long time, but robot economics isn’t just about the automation of tasks – first and foremost it is a system in which humans interact with robots. This technological challenge can open the doors into a world in which all industrial processes are tracked, deals are 100% transparent and pizza is delivered by drones. Yet this future also comes with many risks and unsolved problems. These were discussed at Airalab’s Robonomics-2017 conference last month.
