At the end of October, the company Airalab, a resident of ITMO University’s Technopark, presented its Internet of Things (IoT) solutions at one of the largest exhibitions in the field, IoT Solutions World Congress, this year hosted in Barcelona, Spain. Among other things, the event allowed them to sign a contract with a Uruguayan company for the supply of software that enables getting real-time updates on environmental monitoring. ITMO.NEWS met one of the company’s founders, associate professor at ITMO’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics Alexander Kapitonov to find out what countries also expressed interest in the company’s developments.
Earlier this March, the Future Technologies ITMO Accelerator and ITMO.TECH held a meeting with representatives of Dassault Systèmes, a world leader in the field of 3D development, design, and marketing. Several projects conducted by ITMO University researchers and selected by the jury were presented at the meeting. In the future, some of these projects will be involved in collaboration with Dassault Systèmes and will be able to use the company’s products in their work. At the recent InnoJam design-thinking session conducted by ITMO University’s Convergent Innovations Center and SAP University Alliances, students had to come up with solutions for organizing the management process of developers at ITSK (Information Technology Service Company), a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft PJSC. InnoJam was conducted as part of activities of SAP Next-Gen Lab, a laboratory of the SAP company that offers students to work on branch-specific tasks and propose solutions for customer entities. In the course of two weeks, its participants developed prototypes of systems for control and distribution of tasks for the Technology Department of ITSK.
ITMO graduate and assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego Nadezhda Polikarpova has recently held a workshop where she talked about her research in the field of program synthesis. ITMO’s ‘Computer Technologies’ international laboratory PhD students and staff had the chance to participate. Increasing programming languages and tools efficiency is a subject of ongoing research pursued by scientists all over the world; especially important is the issue of software engineering automation. Nadezhda explores this topical question together with her UC San Diego research group, but that is also one of ITMO University scientists’ areas of expertise. ITMO.NEWS met the graduate to talk about her work.
