According to Galina Korolkova, head of the project and graduate of the «Creative Light Design School» Department, ITMO’s building became the first one on Lomonosova Street, which was lighted by designers.
«Formerly, one could only see only shop windows and commercial signs on this street. When installing the lighting system, we wanted to outline a special space free from these things,» noted the expert.
The first step of this project was visualizing of a model, then experts chose a light concept — there were lots of ways but they preferred gradient lighting with emphasizing the building’s sides. This concept aimed to attract attention to size of the building.
The new lighting system meets all construction norms and regulations. It also includes energy-saving lamps. Furthermore, the designers paid attention to technical and visual aspects.
To dismantle the old lighting system and then install the new one, ITMO University attracted partners from large lighting equipment companies.
