Soft skills

Every year, ITMO’s Personal Development Center hosts lectures and workshops designed to help you improve your soft skills, which will definitely come in handy in your future studies and career. This September, the Center launches its new project, the Goal-Setting Marathon. The first introductory workshop is scheduled for September 30, 2019 and will be followed by a series of online and onsite classes on October 14-28.

Soft skills are a combination of interpersonal skills, the importance of which in the professional environment can hardly be overestimated. The marathon focuses on the basic aspect of soft skills, goal-setting. It is a management technique that involves developing an action plan with targets for a team or individual.

Marathon

Day 1. During the onsite meetup on October 14, you’ll meet with the representatives of ITMO University Personal Development Center and discuss the methods that can help you prioritize your goals and understand your desires.

One day, one technique. The meeting will be followed by a series of online workshops from October 15 to October 27. Every day, you will receive a message with a detailed description of one technique in the field of goal-setting, accompanied by a small task to help you master the technique.

Closing day. At the final onsite meetup on October 28, the workshop's participants will have a chance to share their results with each other and discuss Joseph Campbell’s “hero’s journey” theory.

What is special about the marathon is that it will make you feel fully immersed in the process for two weeks, as well as give you an opportunity to think about your goals and desires. Its organizers note that participation in the marathon will be beneficial to everyone from first-year Bachelor’s students to experienced specialists.
