Event Horizon

Even though the heatwave we’ve been enjoying in the city seems to have passed, it’s no reason to stay home: why not enjoy a walk in the park and a visit to an exhibition? Currently on display at Yelagin Island’s Konyushenny building is an exhibition of works by Sergey Belousov, a Russian artist who’s tapped into various techniques – from conventional oil painting to VR. Explore the patchwork of his creations and enjoy your breather in the park this Thursday.

Ali Alışır In Motion

  • 11 am - 11 pm daily except Tuesdays
  • Erarta Museum
  • 700-1,000 (includes an annual pass)

Another currently ongoing exhibition presents the creations of Turkish artist Ali Alışır, capturing his quest for understanding form and cognition. Part of the showcased creations capture a woman dancing, her dress wrapping around her in peculiar shapes, seemingly flowing; another part represents a different series – works following a digital theme, where everyday landscapes are seen as circuit boards. With both series reflecting a feature of our cognition, be that its mix-and-match or flowy nature, the exhibition offers a new perspective on the way we think – as seen by the artist.

This adventurous change aside, you can expect the same standards we are used to: an assortment of creative local brands with products ranging from delicacies to clothes and jewelry, a fun DJ set, workshops for all sorts of DIY creations, and yummy foods from local vendors.

Exhibition: Message (Весть)

  • August 2 - December 2, 10 am - 8 pm (Mon, Fri, Sat) 10 am - 6 pm (Wed, Thu), 10 am - 7 pm (Sun)
  • The Russian Museum (Benois Wing)
  • 700 rubles (500 rubles for students)

What if we look at paintings we already know but from a perspective of communication? What messages do they contain? How do they portray human interaction? From letters to television and signals from space – and from cyphers to rumors, this exhibition covers it all through the works of both “classical” masters like Repin and Aivazovsky and contemporary artists. If this sounds confusing, it’s because we believe it’s something that hasn’t been done before – and we are here for it.
