Exhibition: On Depth and Surface: In the World of Screens

In July, ITMO’s Art & Science Center and Dom Radio organized workshops for video and media artists. Now, visitors can see their creations on display – sound sculptures, alternative spaces, hand-made pixels, and mixed-media projects with generative design elements. In every work, artists present screens as a fluid object that can blend into various art forms, reimagining its conventional purpose.

Exhibition: European Photography of 1950s-1960s

A unique exhibition is about to open at ROSPHOTO, displaying a collection of original gelatin silver photographs by post-WWII European masters. Focusing on everyday life and humanistic ideals, each photographer pursued their own unique style and method. Thus, the exhibition presents a rich palette of the epoch’s zeitgeist, adding a personal touch to our historical understanding of this time.

Zemlya Fest

Many different nations and groups populate Russia – learn about some of their unique languages here – and this fest is about some of them. Namely, it focuses on the culture of Siberia’s indigenous minorities, representing them through visual art, music, and cinema. The festival also features a series of discussions about specific traditions and folklore (in Russian). At 7 pm on Saturday, you’ll have the chance to attend a concert by Ultan Kai, a band mixing pop with traditional Evenki texts and sounds.

Study Fair

If you’re looking to spruce up your academic experience, this event is just for you! Major online schools will come together at Sevkabel Port to present their products – programs and courses in design, creative writing, interdisciplinary studies (by ITMO’s Art & Science Center) and more. Also on the program are discussions on building a successful career or starting out in a new profession. Though the event’s language is Russian, we believe it can still be curious and useful to attend – grab a Russian-speaking friend with you for company.

Mats Ek’s ballets: The Place and Bye

TheatreHD brings to the screens two performances created by Swedish choreographer Mats Ek to honor two retiring stars: Mikhail Baryshnikov (The Place) and Sylvie Guillem (Bye). Can you truly retire after dedicating your life to a craft? What does it mean for a dancer to perform on stage for the last time? Explore these feelings with the dancers on Monday.

On the big screen: A Different Man

It’s another creation by A24, which means it’s a goodie that’s also a little weird. In the film, we follow an aspiring actor (Sebastian Stan), who undergoes a surgery to change his appearance – and get his dream, or so he thinks. Having gotten what he craved, he starts questioning what he lost, fixating on an actor who portrays him in a production based on his life.
The film will be screened in English with Russian subtitles.
