How to choose your specialization
In 2025, students can select up to five specializations in their application, compared to four last year.
How to prioritize your specializations
Applicants must select a priority (ranging from 1 to 5) next to each specialization they wish to pursue on their applications. If you pass the selection for all five specializations on your list, you will be enrolled in the one with the highest priority. You can alter your priority list an unlimited number of times until the end of the admission campaign.
NB! Priorities work only within one university – they do not apply to other universities.
Priorities are also displayed in admission lists, making it easier for you to see the priorities of other applicants and thus evaluate your admission chances.
Admission lists
In 2025, each applicant will receive a unique number to track their placement on admission lists.
Admission lists will be published on ITMO’s admissions website once the campaign begins.

Entrance exams
As always, applicants can opt for entrance exams as their means of enrollment.
NB! Depending on the subject area, applicants may take the exam in the form of an oral exam, a test, or a written task.
All exams are conducted remotely via ITMO’s own platform with a built-in proctoring system. The language is Russian or English. Applicants only have one attempt at their exam for each program.
The dates and additional information about ITMO’s entrance exams will be available on the admissions website.
You can choose your enrollment option and the date of your examination via your personal account after submitting your documents.
Admission without exams
Other enrollment options include the Portfolio Contest and the results of competitions, scientific schools, and other events approved by the university.
Portfolio contest
The contest allows students to enroll in over 70 Master’s programs at ITMO University. Contestants can apply to up to five programs, each with its own form and relevant portfolio. The contest has three tracks. Depending on the program of choice, the focus may be on publications and conferences, creative projects, or code.
Who can participate: final-year Bachelor’s students or graduates with research, academic, and/or professional achievements.
How to apply:
-
Download the application form on ITMO’s website;
-
Fill out the form and prepare your portfolio. It should include documents confirming your personal achievements, namely scanned copies of certificates and diplomas, screenshots, links to your publications, materials from conferences, exhibitions, and so on;
-
Upload them as a single PDF file on your personal page.
Find more on the Portfolio Contest here.
Participants can score up to 100 points for the contest. Those who receive 85+ points are considered winners and can enroll without entrance exams.
Dates: March 1 - June 1 and June 20 - August 5, 2025.
Winner and runner-up certificates
Additionally, ITMO accepts the results of the national competitions: the I Am a Professional contest and ones held by the university itself, including Mega Contest, varied winter schools, Junior ML Contest, Roboforce, etc. The general rule is that the competition’s subject area has to align with the applicant’s subject field.
You can find additional information, including program descriptions, entrance exams, and admissions opportunities, on the individual page of a chosen program on the admissions website.

Tuition-based admissions
The only difference for fee-based studies is the admission dates; in other respects, the procedure is the same.
This year, all fee-based applicants will be enrolled with a single order on September 5. The order will be issued after students have signed their agreements with the university and paid for their first semester of studies.
