Asian Winter Fest

Although the Asian New Year traditionally takes place after the European one, the festival’s organizers decided to start the celebration early. So, as soon as this weekend, you’ll get a perfect chance to get to know the many traditions of this grand event, and dive into the festive atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest holidays!

The Asian Winter Fest will take place on December 2-3 at the Lenexpo exhibition forum, and feature various concerts, performances, workshops and a fair.

Festival of Fire and Light

This spectacular event that traditionally takes place at the Babushkina Park will bring together the city’s best teams of fire dancers in an astounding performance; at the end of each day, guests will also have an opportunity to participate in a flash-mob - the simultaneous launch of hundreds of sky lanterns to light up the dark winter skies.

The event will take place from December 1 to 3, starting at 7 pm each day.

“Smuggling. Three hundred years underseas” exhibition

This curious event revolves around an 18th-century smuggler ship that has recently been discovered on the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. Some of its contents, like its cargo, tools, food and the crew’s personal items are now exhibited at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg. These items offer a unique insight into the lives and tastes of those people, their times and the maritime traditions of their era. Besides learning about the ship’s history and seeing its three hundred years-old cargo, the exhibition also allows its visitors to explore the actual underwater archeological site using audiovisual technologies. The exhibition is currently open and will close on January 31, 2018.

“SoсSbyt” charity event

Finally, a peculiar event will take place at the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines. The SoсSbyt charity auction will turn the venue into a huge nostalgia shop where St. Petersburg’s citizens will auction off old Soviet memorabilia to raise money for the homeless. Take this chance to immerse yourself into the atmosphere of a bygone era, and maybe buy some unique item to remind you about your time in Russia!

By the way, on December 1 the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines will also hold its next Live Jazz Night, which is a great event for any music lover.

See you next week! Yours truly, ITMO.NEWS.
