• ITMO Scientist Elected 2026 Optica Fellow

  Andrey Bogdanov, a researcher at ITMO’s International Research and Educational Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials and the Harbin Engineering University (China), has joined the 2026 cohort of Fellows selected by Optica – the world’s leading scientific society in optics and photonics. As an Optica Fellow, the researcher will now be eligible to influence the photonics agenda, participate in the community’s strategic initiatives, and attract new partners, PhD students, and researchers to ITMO University.

• 1,000+ Participants From 37 Countries: ITMO Hosts Its First International School in AI and Gamedev

  Disruptive Unicorn Lab (DU Lab), an international online summer school by ITMO University, drew over 1,100 students from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the CIS countries. Within two weeks, participants generated ideas for technological startups, studied the fundamentals of gamedev and business logic, learned how to apply AI for products, prepared their applications for international accelerators, and looked into the work of international startup ecosystems. Among the school’s mentors were experts from China, Thailand, the Philippines, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, and other countries.

• Participants of BRIDGE Project Share Their Stories and Achievements

  The international project BRIDGE started out as a research initiative meant to explore the possibility of enhancing university graduates’ presence on the labor market by letting them tackle real-life business challenges during their studies. The project has had six sessions since its launch in 2019. That same year, participants from ITMO University got the chance to travel to Finland, Norway, and Murmansk and recently met for the final session at their alma mater. During the week-long event, students attended lectures on entrepreneurship and project management, as well as tried their hand at solving problems faced by business communities. It’s published by Quacquarelli Symonds, one of the leading analytical agencies in the field of higher education. This QS Ranking evaluates the employability of university graduates on the global market.

  This time, ITMO was ranked 36th – 10 positions higher than last year. Since the ranking’s introduction in 2014, ITMO has managed to get up by 64 positions.

• THE Ranking: ITMO University Secures Its Position Among Russia’s Top-10 Universities

  This Wednesday, September 2, the 2021 edition of Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR 2021) was made public. ITMO University took eighth place among the almost 50 Russian universities present in the ranking, and was included in the world’s top 600 universities.

• Different Approaches, One Goal: International Week of Social Entrepreneurship at ITMO University

  All throughout the past week at ITMO University, seven teams from Russia, the US and Switzerland were developing social projects to then present them to the judges. The students and lecturers forming part of the groups interacted with their colleagues, discussed the difference in social entrepreneurship approaches in their countries, and exchanged experiences in order to come up with the most comprehensive solution for their tasks.
