  • Yandex Launches New PhD Program and Research Grants Initiative in AI

    The Russian tech giant Yandex is launching its first practice-driven PhD program in AI. Its aim is to create the conditions and infrastructure for the training of the nation’s young scientists. Each year, the students will receive 800,000-ruble grants in order to create new AI technologies and quickly integrate them into the industry. Among the program’s first partners are ITMO University and the Higher School of Economics (HSE), with the lineup expected to grow manifold in the near future.

  • ITMO Lands in Top Three Among Russian Universities in Presidential PhD Stipend Competition

    ITMO University became the first university in St. Petersburg and the third in Russia based on the number of students who won the presidential stipend. In total, there are 19 winners from ITMO who conduct research across the scientific spectrum, including in biotechnology, nanomaterials, AI, and quantum physics.

  • Open-Source AI by ITMO Developers Takes First Place at RAS Competition

    The ITMO-developed software won gold in the category Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies at the competition for young scientists organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and the Sistema Charitable Foundation. The proposed technology allows for the use of AI approaches for deeper data interpretation and a range of scientific and industrial tasks (e.g., flood forecasting or modeling of data from technical sensors).

  • Liquid Metal Makes Production of Porous Metals for Batteries Easier

    Researchers from ITMO University have devised a low-cost, eco-friendly method to produce porous materials for batteries and catalysts (substances that accelerate chemical reactions) by using a liquid metal (sodium-potassium alloy) as a reagent. The results of the study were published in Chemical Communications.

    How are modern technologies making conventional and phygital types of sports more accessible and exciting? More than 750 participants gathered for a discussion on the topic at the nationwide youth contest Phygital Sporttech Innovations Cup.   • ITMO Receives 5 Million Rubles to Support Young Scientists

    ITMO University has won the competition of student research associations organized by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The university will use its 5-million-ruble grant to fund an international conference of young sciences, a career fair, a competition for the best scientific project, and nine other events that will help students find like-minded peers and boost their research skills.

  • ITMO Fellowship: ITMO Launches New Postdoc Track for Young Scientists Across Russia

    In addition to working with companies like Gazprom Neft, Sberbank, Yandex, and other industry leaders, participants of the new program will have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in fields such as quantum communications, optics, smart technologies, robotics, and others pursued at ITMO University. The track provides young researchers with a comprehensive adaptation package (special housing conditions, a health insurance package, and additional funding for purchasing equipment and consumables) to make their move to St. Petersburg more convenient. Applications are accepted through May 15.
