Applied AI Challenge: Winners’ Tips and New Opportunities for Participants
Applied AI Challenge, an online hackathon in machine learning and data analysis, will launch at ITMO on May 17. This year, it is organized in partnership with Tochka Bank and Gazprom Neft’s Science and Technology Center. ITMO’s New Professional Development Programs: Data Analysis, BIM, and Web Design
ITMO University has recently launched three new professional development programs on the Open Education online platform: Data Analysis, Project Development with BIM, and Professional Web Design in HTML and CSS (all courses are taught in Russian). Upon completing each of the courses, students will get a state-standard CPD (continuous professional development) certificate. GIS for Beginners: How to Start Working with Maps and Why Do it in the First Place
Recently, an open workshop “Cartography for those who’ve never done it before” was hosted in St. Petersburg. Its participants familiarized themselves with the main operation principles of the free map-making service QGIS, learned to work with existing geospatial data and display it on maps. The workshop was given by Maria Podkorytova, an engineer at the Quality of Urban Life Laboratory (QULLAB) of ITMO University’s Institute of Design & Urban Studies.

Digital Humanities Week: Physicist and Mathematician Ivan Yamshchikov on the Use of Algorithms in Humanities Research
ITMO University is currently hosting the SPBDH Week Digital Humanities Week, which features lectures, discussions and workshops on interdisciplinary communications and research. Opening the event was physicist and mathematician Ivan Yamshchikov, who presented his research on the topic of “Data Analysis, Reproducibility and Living People”. Must-Have for Drivers: New Development by ITMO Scientists Will Make Car Trips Safer
ITMO University scientists have developed a mobile app that monitors drivers’ condition. When the system detects the signs of sleepiness or inattentiveness, it immediately follows back with recommendations on steps to take to avoid possible collisions.
