Here's How ITMO's New Academic Degree System Will Work
Last year, 19 universities and 4 scientific organizations in Russia were given the right to grant their own academic degrees, form thesis boards and outline their credentials. According to representatives of those universities that have already started this process, it will help Russian universities better integrate into the international community. Youth Foresight Festival Tackles Future of Transportation
Last night, at Peter and Paul fortress in St. Petersburg, a special opening of the Russian Youth Foresight Festival “Pravo Rulya” [or “Go Starboard!”] took place. The festival is devoted to transport and traffic. ITMO University’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations (FTMI), St. Petersburg’s Education Committee and St. Petersburg’s City Youth Art Palace are organizing the event for the second time for school and university students from the ages of 7 to 25. Vladimir Lumelsky On The Future Of Robotics: An Open Lecture At ITMO University
We all would have liked it if robots could do all the routine work, wash the dishes and do lots of other things we can't or don't have the time for - and it might seem that our dreams are about to become reality. Now, we already have robots like Da Vinci who can perform surgeries with better precision than any human would do, or the Roomba vacuum-cleaner robot who can get rid of dust in your apartment while you are taking a stroll. Yet, we still can't trust robots with everything - in fact, a robot still can't bring a glass of water to an aged person or fold washed clothes, notes Vladimir Lumelsky, Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During an open lecture at ITMO University, he shared about what can help robots operate under the conditions of uncertainty and perform things humans easily do.
