    ITMO University’s Technopark and the Future Technologies business accelerator have launched TEAM, an intensive team development course that helps startup managers acquire various soft skills and learn how to establish communications within a team. The course is developed and headed by Egor Deliev, an ITMO graduate and former head of AIESEC’s St. Petersburg office.   • ITMO Graduates Reflect on True Value of Education

    Occupational work doesn’t necessarily mean working in the very field the student has been trained for. Today, showing graduates how to apply their competencies is amongst the most important tasks for every university. Graduates Alexey and Andrei Kiselev believe that this is especially relevant in case of ITMO University, which trains its students to be able to apply their knowledge in practically any field.     Choreography in VR, multimedia theatrical performances and virtual actors on a real stage - more and more new technologies are being introduced into classical art. Digital theatricals are now shifted with a single press of a button, and the very theaters have long developed their own data centers, started using analytical systems and are now looking to introduce  360 degree videos, as well as virtual and augmented reality systems. Arseny Nikolaev, ITMO graduate and chief engineer of Mariinsky Theatre’s  IPTV sector, speaks about new multimedia projects and the prospects of using new technologies in classical theatre.

  • ITMO Graduate and Entrepreneur Yaroslav Pavlov on Changing Academia Through IT

    10 years ago, Yaroslav Pavlov graduated from ITMO’s Business Informatics program; since then, he’s managed to study in three different countries, build a managerial career in the field of IT, and launch one of Russia’s first iMBA programs at the RANEPA Institute. Currently, Mr. Pavlov is head of his own project that helps Russian business schools and companies get distance education processes up and running. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, the expert spoke about the common problems that managers working in IT face, the specific features of Russian business schools, and why blended learning will become all the more popular in educational establishments.

  • VK’s Head of Growth and Research On Delegating Routine Tasks to AI

    Last Sunday ITMO University announced the results of the ITMO VK Olympiad. This year, more than 3,000 school students from 70 regions of Russia and CIS took part in the competition that tested their knowledge in 6 disciplines. The finalists got to attend an open lecture on data analysis and machine learning technologies by Andrei Zakonov, the head of growth and research at VK and a graduate of ITMO University. Speaking to ITMO.NEWS, he revealed how machine learning is changing Russia’s biggest social network, how school students can get started in that field and what kind of skills VK looks for in its employees.

  • itmo.ru: The Best Birthday Present

    On March 26, ITMO University turned 118. One of the best presents was from its alum Yuri Luzhkov, who gave the university the domain name itmo.ru. The transfer was managed by ITMO University Alumni Association and in part funded by ITMO Endowment Fund. As a student at the Department of Computational Technologies, Luzhkov created and developed an alternative, student portal. In the early 2000’s, before the rise of social networks, students could find study materials, share music and make friends at itmo.ru. Here’s how the first student-driven site was created, what kind of content was popular 15 years ago and what current university sites should look like.

  • ITMO Graduate Nadia Polikarpova on Working at MIT and UC San Diego

    Ten years ago, Nadezhda Polikarpova graduated from ITMO University; since that time, she got her PhD at ETH Zurich under the supervision of renowned software engineering expert Bertrand Meyer, worked as a postdoc at MIT and got the position of an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego.   • From A Double Degree Program To A PhD In France: Student Shares

    In 2014-2016, Uliana Pinaeva was studying Molecular Bio- and Nanophotonics (MONABIPHOT), a double degree program conducted by ITMO University and ENS de Cachan (France). During her time in France, she decided to continue her education as a PhD student abroad. To get a corresponding grant, she passed a three-stage selection conducted by the University of Paris-Saclay. Currently, Uliana is a second-year PhD student working in a laboratory at École Polytechnique - one of the most prestigious universities in France. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, she gave advice on developing one’s career on an international level and getting funding for studying in France.
