ITMO University Student Participates in BRICS International Youth Forum as Part of Russian Delegation
On October 17-20, the capital of Brazil hosted the fifth BRICS International Youth Forum. The main topics for discussion were new educational formats, the development of soft skills, as well as entrepreneurship in the student community. Presenting his research at the panel session was Kirill Plugin, a fourth-year Bachelor’s student of ITMO University’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty and co-founder of the Digital Generation club. Chemistry Without Borders: 30 Russian and British Researchers Discuss Collaboration in Liverpool
An international workshop on the development of complex materials and self-regulating chemical systems took place in Liverpool this October. It was organized by ITMO University and the University of Liverpool with support from the British Council. The main feature of the event was its interdisciplinary approach, as it brought together not only specialists in the field of chemistry, new materials development and energetics, but also physicists and IT, management systems, and robotics specialists. Over the course of three days, 30 Russian and British researchers shared the results of their projects and discussed prospects for collaboration.

ITMO Partner Day: Discussions and Collaborations
On September 20, 2019, ITMO University held ITMO Partner Day, which brought together over 30 representatives of ITMO’s international partner educational institutions. Attending the event were rectors and vice rectors, heads of international departments, coordinators of international programs, and professors of the universities from Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the US, Australia and other countries. As part of the Partner Day, they attended several of ITMO’s laboratories and were able to meet the university’s students during the Study Abroad Fair 2019, an educational fair dedicated to international exchange opportunities.

First Summer School of International Project LIGHT4HEALTH
From July 29 to August 2, 2019, the first summer school of the international project LIGHT4HEALTH will be held as part of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership program. The project’s consortium includes ITMO University (Russia), Thomas Jefferson University (the US), University of Wolverhampton (the UK), and three leading European schools in the field of light design: Aalborg University (Denmark), Hochschule Wismar (Germany) and KTH Royal Institute (Sweden). In line with the overall focus of LIGHT4HEALTH, the first summer school will be dedicated to harnessing the power of light to bring about a positive impact on human health.

Friday June 21 marked the conclusion of the 10th meeting of ITMO’s International Council, the hub of the University’s strategic framework working to help enhance its competitive performance as a leading higher education institution with an international outlook. The prominent experts forming part of the Council assembled in St. Petersburg to discuss this meeting’s topic “Entrepreneurship and Tech Transfer”.

Education For Everyone: Global Experts Discuss Future of Open Education
On May 27-28, the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris hosted a special meeting that brought together educational experts from more than 50 countries of the world. Experts discussed and provided suggestions for the Open Educational Resources (OER) project, which aims to make educational resources open and accessible to all, as well as to encourage international collaboration in the propagation of knowledge. Representing Russia at the meeting was Yulia Romanenko, a staff member of ITMO University, who spoke with ITMO.NEWS about the expert group’s work and the significance of the project to the development of global education partnerships.
