ITMO’s Russian Language and Culture Summer School: A Passion for Learning
Since 2016, ITMO University has hosted a Russian language summer school for language learning enthusiasts around the world. This year, from July 1 to 28, the school was held online for the first time with 22 participants from 10 countries including Canada, China, the UK, the USA and several countries in Europe. We talked to a few of the participants to learn about their experiences during the summer school and what attracted them to Russian language and culture.

Online Weekend Plans: Courses, Sports and Virtual Museums for Those Staying at Home
During his quarantine in the village of Boldino, Alexander Pushkin managed to write an unprecedented amount of works. ITMO University Transferring Students to Online and Distance Learning
As a means of preventing the spread of the coronavirus infection, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education has recommended all higher educational institutions in Russia to switch to distance learning. An associated decree was signed on Saturday, March 14 by Valery Falkov, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Starting on March 16 and until the end of the academic year – or until the stabilization of epidemiological conditions – ITMO University will conduct its educational activities online. To that end, the university will employ a full range of educational technologies for online and distance learning. If needed, students will be provided with individual curricula.

MOOCs for Everyone: How to Create an Effective and Useful Online Course
Online education is a widespread trend that is only gaining in popularity. There are more and more courses by the world’s best universities appearing on various platforms. An original online course has become not so much an element of prestige than a vital necessity for confirming one’s status as a successful educator. Asel Romanova, a lecturer at ITMO University’s Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems and the author of several programming MOOCs, shared her experience and practical advice on how to create effective and interesting online courses. Her presentation took place as part of the ITMO.Expert project.

Machine Learning for Enhancing Online Courses’ Efficiency
ITMO University Bachelor’s student Sviatoslav Oreshin became the winner of the competition for the Best Student Presentation, which was held as part of the international conference Smart Education & E-Learning (SEEL) 2019. Held in Malta for the sixth time, the conference brought together a large number of researchers in the field of smart education technologies. In his project, Sviatoslav Oreshin explores machine learning applications for enhancing students’ motivation for participation in online courses.
