ITMO Students Develop AI Model to Detect Car Malfunctions
Daria Ledneva and Timur Ionov, students of ITMO’s Institute of Applied Computer Science, became winners in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) organized by Yandex Education and HSE University. Their team, AI Capybara, suggested an AI model that detects car malfunctions – a solution that drew the interest of the ridesharing service Yandex Taxi (Yandex Go).

155 Teachers in Russia Took AI Course by ITMO and Alfa-Bank
ITMO University and Alfa-Bank collaborated on a joint continuous professional development course to help teachers master AI and learn how to use innovative technologies in the classroom. The course was taken by 155 people from 52 cities in Russia and the CIS countries.

ITMO Receives 162 Million Rubles for AI Computer Vision System for Drones
ITMO’s National Center for Cognitive Research, GosNIIAS, and KT-Bespilotnye Sistemy were named among the winners of a recent selection by the NTI Foundation, receiving a 162-million-ruble subsidy to fund the development of an AI-based computer vision system for drones. The system will use neural networks to automate the development and training of models, thus making the new system accessible not only for computer vision (CV) specialists, but also for regular users who will be able to adjust the system to their needs. The solution will be fully adapted for Russian-made hardware.

AR/AI Headset by ITMO Startup Lands Top-25 Spot at Sber500 IT Accelerator
Scientists from ITMO University are developing a cognitive AR/AI headset for Russian engineers working in the oil and gas industry. The device, which integrates augmented reality and artificial intelligence tech, will allow on-site workers to instantly communicate with corporate knowledge bases and remote experts. Its creators aim to reduce the risks of costly downtime for oil and gas facilities during emergencies and facilitate the resolution of critical engineering challenges. The startup Photonica.tech has been selected as one of 25 finalists of the international IT accelerator Sber500 out of over 1,500 applicants, marking it as a promising DeepTech project for the Russian industry.

Battle of Robots: ITMO and Alfa-Bank Roll Out Competition’s First AI-Controlled Robot
ITMO’s team Auxilium AI, in collaboration with Alfa-Bank, recently presented the AI-powered robot A.L.F.A. at the second qualifying round of the International Battle of Robots championship in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The robot is equipped with a powerful weapon, upgraded armor, and fully autonomous controls. All in all, the tournament featured 96 teams from nine countries.

Three ITMO Researchers Win Yandex ML Prize
Recently, the Russian tech giant Yandex announced the results of its annual Yandex ML Prize, an award for researchers who contribute to the development of machine learning and train new talents in the field. This year, 14 researchers were honored with the award, including three from ITMO University. All winners will receive awards ranging from 500,000 to 1 million rubles.
