• AI to Bring Parity in Science: Alexander Boukhanovsky on Developing Fundamental AI Models

  Alexander Boukhanovsky, the head of ITMO’s School of Translational Information Technologies, recently took part in a press conference held by the Russian Science Foundation at the TASS news agency. The scientist highlighted Russia’s role as one of the leaders in using the combination of AI and classical mathematical methods to deliver relevant applied solutions. However, several more challenges have to be overcome in order to place Russia on an even footing with other world AI leaders.

• Learning Through Winning: A Conversation With Ammar Ali, Winner of Multiple AI Contests

  Ammar Ali is a PhD student at ITMO and multiple-time winner of Sberbank’s AI Journey contest. For three years in a row, he has been achieving successes at various AI competitions, often competing solo and coming out ahead of entire teams. • New Lab at ITMO: Using AI to Build Molecular Machines for Therapy and Diagnostics

  Generative Design of Enzymes and Aptamers – that is the name of a new laboratory just opened at ITMO, where researchers will develop AI-based tools for creating molecular machines. These are nanodevices that can catalyze chemical reactions, selectively bind molecules, and even act as biochips. The results of such research can help develop personalized treatments and POC  (point-of-care) systems – mobile devices for medical diagnostics.
