The Experiment: How Healthy Food Can Improve Your Life

ITMO’s Student Brigades Turn 75
In the 75 years of their history, ITMO’s student brigades transformed from activist-driven organizations helping rebuild hydropower plants after WWII to a diverse community of students who travel the country, take part in archeological excavations, assist at summer camps, pick fruits and berries, and even work as lifeguards at resorts. February 17 is celebrated as the Day of Student Brigades in Russia and today we are looking back on the eventful history of student brigades at ITMO.

ITMO and Samolet Group Host School for Future IT Leaders
ITMO’s Institute of Applied Computer Science and Samolet Group hosted a joint winter school for students titled Project Activities in IT: From Developer to Leader. The school’s participants learned to create and manage innovative solutions, as well as worked on their own ideas. The authors of the best IT projects received a 200,000-ruble grant and the chance to continue their work under the guidance of Samolet experts.

New at ITMO: Educational Module on Sustainability in IT and Construction
ITMO’s Faculty of Ecotechnologies, in collaboration with the telecom operator Beeline and Research Institute of Sustainable Development in Construction (NIIURS), have launched a new educational module on sustainable development in telecommunications and construction within the Bachelor’s program Ecotechnologies and Sustainable Development. Among the lecturers are experts from the partner companies, while classes are based on real-life cases. Upon completing the module, students will get the chance to intern at corporations and collect data for their graduation papers.

ITMO Students Develop First Russian Free AI Service for People With Diabetes
A new specialized AI chatbot has recently been launched by ITMO students and the Diabetes Foundation; it can answer any question on diabetes, as well as let users help each other out – for instance, if they run out of insulin.. Each answer is provided based on verified information from clinicians and experts. Thanks to the fact that it requires smaller server capacities, the new service is completely free.

At a recent competition co-organized by ITMO and Sberbank, students were tasked with developing innovative digital services based on existing Sberbank products. Winners received recommendations from the company’s experts on how to improve their ideas, find investors, and attract an audience.

The 14th SCAMT Workshop Week at ITMO University came to an end. In the course of a week, Bachelor’s students in natural sciences worked on their research in chemistry, biology, and IT. Those who successfully defended their projects were eligible to enroll in ITMO’s Master’s programs without exams or continue their research at the university.

ITMO Student Wins GSEA Russia Competition of Young Entrepreneurs
Mikhail Shperling, a first-year student at the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations, has designed a platform that helps businesses automate tasks, integrate IT systems, and prevent data leaks. This solution brought him victory in the category Future Unicorn at GSEA Russia 2025, a competition of young entrepreneurs. Next for Mikhail is a presentation of his project at GSEA grand finals in Berlin, where he will compete for a $100,000 prize fund.
