• Geneticist Bayazit Yunusbayev On How Genetics Can Help Fight Autoimmune Diseases

  For several years Bayazit Yunusbayev had been studying the mechanisms behind the autoimmune and allergic diseases at the University of Tartu (Estonia), and last year he joined ITMO’s SCAMT Institute, where he heads the Evolutionary Biomedicine group, to continue with his research. Bayazit Yunusbayev came to the university as part of the ITMO Fellowship & Professorship program that allows researchers to work at the university for several years. • ITMO Fellow Stanislav Baturin On Megascience Installations and Spinning Particles

  The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is the most powerful particle accelerator in the world. It allows researchers to study particle physics at the highest energy levels available to accelerators. Stanislav Baturin has been working in the field of particle physics at Russian and American universities for many years. Last year, he joined the ITMO Fellowship & Professorship program and the team of the university’s Faculty of Physics. At ITMO, Stanislav is collaborating with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) located in Dubna, Moscow Oblast, on a project devoted to the physics of spinning particles. In March, the researcher will also teach an optional course on megascience-class installations. In this interview, he told us why researchers accelerate spinning particles and what to expect from his new course.

  Coming all the way from the South American country of Ecuador, Ricardo is a first-year Bachelor’s student studying mechatronics at ITMO. He developed a strong interest in robotics while he was in school and decided to pursue it further in college. His hobbies include singing, guitar music, and photo editing.
