  • ITMO Technopark and Highpark Launch Pre-Accelerator Program

    ITMO Technopark launched the Pre-accelerator educational program for St. Petersburg entrepreneurs. The course was created in collaboration with ITMO Highpark for the purpose of helping startupers in the early stages. In the course of three months, its participants will be testing their ideas, developing business models, finding consumers and creating the MVP, a minimum viable product for entering the market.   • ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Team Wins Gold in National Stage of World Robot Olympiad 2019

    On June 23, the 2019 Russian Robot Olympiad, the national stage of the World Robot Olympiad, wrapped up at the Innopolis University (Kazan). This year, the venue, which has been hosting the country’s largest competition in the field since 2014, welcomed 211 coaches and 537 participants aged from 12 to 18 years old. Among them was the team from ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory, who presented their new invention, LEGO Education Helper, taking the first prize of the competition.

  • Creating a Dream Game: Advice from a Game Designer with 17-Year Industry Record

    Living in the office, relaxing at parties, and devoting six years to the creation of a dream game: this is how game designer Kirill Zolovkin describes his life. In his 17 years in the industry, he has worked his way to the top at the company OctoBox Interactive and won a multitude of awards. There have been other recognitions; for example, one of his games was streamed by PewDiePie, the gaming YouTuber extraordinaire. In his talk at an open day of the educational program “Game Development Technologies”, Kirill shared about stumbling blocks in video game development.

  • Project by ITMO Robotics Team Named Best at Baltic Science and Engineering Competition

    ITMO University’s team from the Creative Robotics Laboratory of the School of Computer Technologies and Control have for the fifth time emerged winners of the Baltic Science and Engineering Competition. The main prize in the robotics category went to Vasily Dunaev and Dmitry Kharlapenko from the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum №239, who presented a model of an autonomous system capable of looking after easily-damageable fruit and berries and delivering them to customers when ripe. It wasn’t the first win for their Strawberry Fields project, who’d already claimed first place at the World Robot Olympiad 2018 in Thailand. ITMO.NEWS met the team to talk about how they prepared for the competition and what they expect to come of their project in the future.

  • Breathing-Checker Belt and Smart Trousers: ITMO Students Explore Health Devices at Tallinn University Winter School

    A winter school in Experimental Interaction Design has recently taken place at Tallinn University. Held on January 14-25, it focused on using technologies for facilitating a healthy lifestyle. Among the school’s participants were Master’s students of ITMO’s Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems Zarina Gabdullazyanova, Svetlana Galoshina, Kristina Barysheva and PhD student Yulia Bezbakh. In the course of their studies, they developed operating prototypes of devices that would help people breathe, clean their teeth and do sit-ups in the right way. They spoke to ITMO.NEWS about their projects and overall experience.

  • When VR met AR: ITMO University Students Created a SMARRt Robot with Lots of Potential

    As part of practice-oriented R&D initiative, ITMO University students were provided with financial support which enabled them to create a robot equipped with state-of-the-art systems of synthetic vision, navigation and augmented reality. What makes this automaton stand out from other models on the market is its unique blend of VR and AR technologies.
