ITMO Alumna Elena Petrova Awarded City’s Best Graduate Award
The annual celebration of the best graduates of St. Petersburg was held today, on June 24, at the Peter and Paul Fortress. The ceremony was attended by Elena Petrova, a graduate of ITMO’s Faculty of Physics, who received the bronze sphinx statuette – a symbol of wisdom, intelligence, and perseverance.

Start! With ITMO: Admissions Office Opens at ITMO
Today, June 20, ITMO University opens its admissions office on Kronverksky Pr. 49 for prospective students who want to apply for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in person; online admissions are available, as well. This year, the university introduced three new Bachelor’s and five new Master’s programs. Most programs are implemented in collaboration with Yandex, Sberbank, and other tech giants.

ITMO’s New Compound Disables Disease-Producing Genes 17 Times Faster Than Counterparts
Scientists from ITMO University have created a new compound – bivalent DNAzymes: these are short, connected therapeutic DNA chains. The compound has four “arms” and two cores that enable it to find the target sequence even in the complex twisted messenger RNA of a gene, then bind with this site, and cleave it. Among the solution’s possible applications are new treatments for viral, oncological, and hereditary diseases at early stages. The DNAzyme was described in a paper published in Nucleic Acids Research.
