Why and How To Apply for Scientific Workshop Week at ITMO
Scientific Workshop Week (SWW) is a research school held biannually by ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School. The most recent installment, which wrapped up at ITMO on June 22-29, was devoted to nanotechnology trends and team projects. Participants who successfully defended their projects get to enroll in ITMO’s Master’s programs without entrance exams and continue their research at the university. ITMO Ranks in Top 3 of Advanced Engineering Schools Federal Project
Following its recent defense before the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, ITMO University has taken the second spot in the ranking of advanced engineering schools within the federal project’s first wave. ITMO's Advanced Engineering School Delivers Updates on Successes So Far
On May 14, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education was presented with progress reports fromadvanced engineering schools launched within the dedicated federal project. ITMO presented the results of its Advanced Engineering School (AES) three years down the line, as well as strategic plans for the future. The 2025 project leaders will be identified based on the defense.

Home of Future Leaders: ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Opens New Site
On November 1, one of the university’s buildings at Lomonosova St. 9 was officially reopened after renovation. Its seven labs, two coworking spaces, and the office of ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School are already available to students and staff. The building will serve as a venue for research and joint projects with the school’s partners. At the official opening ceremony, it was also announced that the school will be the first Advanced Engineering School in Russia to have its own endowment fund.

AI Diagnostics and Virus Hunting: Projects of Young Genetic Scientists at ITMO University
ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School (AES) summed up the results of Bioinformatics Bootcamp. Participants of the event explored modern data analysis methods and worked on bioinformatics projects, including studying animal genomes, searching for new types of bacteria, and building machine learning models. ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Among Federal Leaders
On February 19, the Council on grants and state support for the development of advanced engineering schools assembled in Moscow. Valery Falkov, the Russian Minister for Science and Higher Education and the head of the council, discussed the results achieved by advanced engineering schools from all over the country with an expert committee. ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School (AES) retains its leading position and is to receive 634 million rubles in grant support.

ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Passes Project Defence
On February 15, the Russian capital welcomed teams from universities all over the country. They presented the results achieved by their advanced engineering schools in 2023 and outlined their next steps before a committee from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Based on the results of these presentations, the Ministry will name the country’s best teams and allocate funding for advanced engineering schools of 30 universities for 2024.

First International Conference of ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Attracts Over 200 Participants
BIOCON 2023 was the first international conference in biotechnologies organized by ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School (AES). Hosted in Almetyevsk, it brought together around 250 scientists and entrepreneurs from 14 countries. The conference’s main aim was to create a platform for international cooperation, interdisciplinary research, and academic exchange.

New Research Brings Personalized Arrhythmia Treatment
Scientists from ITMO University proposed a new approach to treat atrial fibrillation (arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat) – AI-powered algorithms. Using the innovative method, cardiac surgeons will be able to 3D-print custom cardiac tissues for each patient and thus increase the efficiency of their treatment.
