We Have the Universe at Home: ITMO Scientists Suggest Way to Model a Galaxy in a Lab
Researchers from ITMO University have found a way to create a model galaxy in lab conditions, all by reproducing its dynamics with a different physical system – trapped atomic ions. Compared to existing astrophysical models that provide approximated results, this approach makes it possible to conduct experimental studies in a lab. It also offers a more precise answer as to why and how the movement of stars changes relative to a galaxy’s center and how the galaxy can transform. The results of the study have been published in International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos.
