How to Launch a Tech Project and Succeed
What does one need to get into tech, and, ultimately, launch their own project? A unique idea, a team of professionals, materials, equipment, financing and, first and foremost, specific knowledge that can’t be gained fast and cheap. Not having even one of these things will often make even the most enthusiastic entrepreneur abandon their work before it’s even started. The staff at ITMO’s Student Laboratory OLIMP, however, believes that finding your place in the tech world isn’t as hard as it may seem. Four years ago, a student team had a similar experience, and they are now ready to share it with others. As part of Gogol Library’s “Popular Science Week”, OLIMP’s co-head Kirill Bodrov gave a talk about the traps and pitfalls of technological entrepreneurship, why it’s important to visit FabLabs and science festivals and where to find the right skills and people for a project.

3D Printers For Kids: A High-Tech Toy

Yet, working and creating using a 3D printer can be fun and interesting for just anyone! Stanislav Pimenov, graduate of the Future Technologies accelerator, develops and sells 3D printers and special educational software. His new startup can well be the next step in promoting knowledge about modern technology among children.

Starcon 2017: From Space Travel to 3D Printing
The largest Russian festival of science fiction, fantasy, film and science is going to be held for the 18th time on July 28 to 30. Over three days, the guests can visit booths and shops, take part in quests and attend lectures. ITMO University has set up its own booth in the Science section. Visitors will be able to repair a spaceship, become a space captain, learn to control light or use a 3D-printer.

Who Are Makers? Why Do They Need to Be Creative?
When we fuse together various technical creativity centers and organizations we have a community of makers. This activity becomes very popular with Russian schools and universities, as more and more young engineers want to develop something themselves. ITMO University has two fabrication laboratories — the FabLab and the OLYMP. Recently their heads had an internship at Singapore to gain the experience of foreign colleagues and share their ideas.
