  • ITMO Researchers Develop First Drug Delivery System for Selective Melanoma Treatment

Scientists from ITMO University and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University have developed a polymer-based delivery system for therapeutic agents and demonstrated its efficiency against cancer cells and non-toxicity to healthy cells, i.e. keratinocytes. The researchers opted for curcumin and usnic acid as therapeutic agents and loaded this mixture into a polymer hyaluronic acid-based matrix. The developed system may be used for regional chemotherapy or as a post-surgery wound bandage. The findings of the study are published in Frontiers in Bioscience-Landmark.

  • What is Hyaluronic Acid and Where Can We Apply It?

Recently, we told you about ITMO researchers discovering nanofibers based on hyaluronic acid. This time, together with Petr Snetkov, the author of the paper and a PhD student at the Faculty of Applied Optics, we will tell you what hyaluronic acid actually is, why it is interesting, and how it can be applied in medicine and bioengineering.

  • ITMO Researchers Create Unique Wound-Healing Nanofibers Based on Hyaluronic Acid

Researchers from the International Scientific and Research Institute of Bioengineering are the first to obtain nanofiber based on hyaluronic acid with introduced curcumin and usnic acid, natural biologically active substances. Such nanofibers can be used to create wound dressings for treatment of melanomas, burns, and ulcers.
